Keep OXYCONTIN and all medicines out of the reach of children. It is also used to prevent asthma brought on by exercise. Gastrointestinal events (see ADVERSE REACTIONS) may increase when OXYCONTIN EFFECTS is taken with a diet high in fat ( > 30% total daily calories from fat). In confirmation of the relevance of the rhesus model for human fetal development, oral administration of a 2 mg/kg/day dose of finasteride to pregnant monkeys resulted in external genital abnormalities in male fetuses. It may be advisable to eliminate the diuretic (except in patients with heart failure), reduce the diuretic dose or increase salt intake cautiously before initiating therapy with OXYCONTIN in patients at risk for excessive hypotension who are able to tolerate such adjustments (see PRECAUTIONS: DRUG INTERACTIONS and ADVERSE REACTIONS). Patients who were randomized to treatment arms containing beclomethasone had statistically significantly better asthma control than those patients randomized to SINGULAIR alone or placebo alone as indicated by FEV1, daytime asthma symptoms, PEFR, nocturnal awakenings due to asthma, and“as-needed” ?-agonist requirements. Physicians should instruct their patients to read the patient package insert before starting therapy with OXYCONTIN and to reread it each time the prescription is renewed in case any information has changed. Rare cases of severe hepatic reactions, including jaundice and fatal fulminant hepatitis, liver necrosis and hepatic failure (some with fatal outcome) have been reported with NSAIDs, including VIOXX. Although some authors suggest that alcoholics may be at increased risk from therapeutic doses, reports usually involve cases of severe chronic alcoholics and the dosages of oxycontin effects most often exceed recommended doses and often involve substantial overdose.108-110 Studies evaluating the metabolism of doses up to 20 mg/kg of oxycontin effects in chronic alcohol abusers and a study evaluating the effects of 2 days of oxycontin effects dosing at 4000 mg daily in chronic alcoholics undergoing detoxification do not support an increased risk of hepatotoxicity with recommended doses of oxycontin effects.111-115 A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare.
